Question: What do you get when you cross your local data, Google Maps and CartoDB?
Answer: MapGeo 2.0
MapGeo 2.0, AppGeo’s hosted local government mapping solution, weaves together technology from Google Maps and CartoDB and a whole lot more. The new version serves local and regional government employees, businesses and citizens with a fresh intuitive interface, enhanced data integration, and stunning map options. MapGeo leverages these technologies and provides new features in response to what we heard from MapGeo subscribers. Here’s some of what’s new in MapGeo 2.0:
Leveraging Google Maps API and Data – MapGeo users told us they wanted to keep the interface simple while adding the power of familiar map tools and high quality base maps. Google Map’s tools are powerful and its interface familiar. MapGeo layers Google’s high quality imagery, search, directions and basemaps with your local authoritative geospatial data. And, when either source is updated, so is MapGeo.
Letting You Virtually Walk Down the Street – MapGeo users wanted a richer map experience, such as offered by Google Street View. In version 2.0, property data can be explored from the virtual reality of Street View.
Supporting Your Favorite Device – It is no surprise that MapGeo users were interested in accessing MapGeo on all their devices: phone, tablet, and desktop. MapGeo automatically adjusts to a small screen on a mobile device. MapGeo’s responsiveness ensures everyone has access to data and maps anytime, anywhere, on any device.
More Control Over How You Display Your Data – MapGeo users told us they wanted more flexibility to control what they see on the map. The new release enables layers and map themes to be turned on/off and their transparency adjusted. Through the MapGeo dashboard, subscribers can add (and refresh) map layers and themes.
Visualizing Your Data in Order to Answer Your Questions – MapGeo users wanted to extend the possibilities for using their data to improve performance. The addition of CartoDB’s mapping engine to MapGeo’s backend provides the power to create beautiful, dynamic and analytical visualizations including heat maps, time lapse maps and cluster maps. Municipal leaders and administrators can analyze resources, activities, trends and patterns in their communities. These new ways to look at data provide insights into making a town, city or region a better place to live and work.
