GIS Planning Services - A Solid Foundation for GIS Implementation

Planning forms the heart of a successful GIS.

AppGeo Needs Assessments define what functions a GIS is required to do for an organization, and define the gap between "what is" and "what could be" (the "Wish List").

AppGeo Implementation Plans determine how to design and build the system to meet those requirements (the "Do List").

AppGeo Strategic Plans present a strategic vision, define GIS governance and coordination among stakeholders, and identify key programmatic objectives.

AppGeo Business Plans evaluate return on investment, costs and benefits, and funding mechanisms.

Our planning approach and recommendations take all aspects of enterprise GIS systems into consideration: software, hardware, data, and data flows, current and potential applications, existing systems and work flows, staffing and system administration, user training and technical support, and budgetary goals and constraints.

Experience Matters

County and Municipal Governments - AppGeo has completed over 75 GIS needs assessments and implementation plans for county and muncipal government.  We have also helped clients to plan and develop specifications for several dozen (40-scale and 100-scale) base mapping projects including planimetrics, topography and orthophotography.

State Agencies - AppGeo has supported enterprise GIS planning for many state agencies, state public utilities and regulatory authorities meeting key needs for GIS system design, system and data security, database design, and applications and overall system integration.

Statewide - AppGeo has conducted statewide strategic and business planning projects for more than 17 states across the nation, many of which were funded through the FGDC's CAP Grant Program and used the GIS Strategic and Business Plan Templates.

State GIS Strategic and Business Planning Templates - In 2006, AppGeo worked with the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) to prepare GIS Strategic and Business Plan Templates to provide support and guidance for state-level GIS coordination and implementation. [See Press Release]
